A New Year!

So it's a new year - a new beginning and we are all reasonably safe!

I actually feel a sense of comfort in the consistency of our unseasonable and unpredictable weather. I don't know how many times my crocuses have popped in and out this past month. They do this year after year and still present a spectacular display in early spring. Do you think we may all be this resilient?

It is so interesting how my ornamental kales and cabbages react differently when planted in the same spot year to year. Or even when two are planted side by side. I guess they are as individual as we are. There have been years where I have had some winter over and flower in the spring (the flower looks like a head of broccoli). Right now my garden has one looking beautiful and full, while a few feet away, there is one all shriveled up like a prune - or is it a dried plum?

While on this subject, will we now call raisins, dried grapes? And what about dried apricots which were never given another label??? Well, for me, I will always call them prunes and raisins; and dried apricots will always be my favorite.

My hope is to follow what I truly love and not get too caught up in the trends of how it all "should" look and sound.

Enjoy this new year!
