The Bare Stoop

The nights have gotten frigid enough to take it's toll on my pansies. The next warm day, when they perk up again, I will pull the pansies out of my pots and hanging baskets and put them in the ground - maybe they will winter over! There have been winters where I have lifted the snow up and found pansies blooming underneath - what a surprise!

It is also time to pull the Halloween ghosts out of the trees and gather up my mini pumpkins, gourds, and Indian corn. I'll give them a good cleaning and enjoy them on the harvest table for Thanksgiving.

I clean up the rest of my stoop and wait for the evergreen roping, juniper and holly bunches, and wreaths to arrive for more decorating fun.

This brief time is probably the barest my stoop will be all year. I kind of enjoy the moment - it is an excellent time to reflect on all that I am truly thankful for.

Afterwards, warming the door for winter with evergreens is just so symbolic and therapeutic.
