  Fall is for planting bulbs

HOLLAND BULBS

Bulb planting information & care

SOIL: A loose well_drained garden soil.

WATER: Water well after planting. Normal rainfall will take take care of the rest, however,if there is no rainfall water every week.

DEPTH: Loosen the soil about 10" deep and plant the bulbs pointed side up. Planting depth depends on the size and variety of the bulb. Ask your Country Garden's salesperson for specific details about your bulbs.

MULCH: In northern climates a winter covering will help assure the most beautiful flowers for spring.

BULBS PER SQUARE FOOT: You can plant anywhere from 5_10 bulbs per square foot.  Remember larger plantings of bulbs make a bigger show in your garden!

PERENNIAL BULBS: To make bulbs more perennial remove the wilted flowers from the stems.  Leave as much of the foliage as long as possible. The foliage will help produce new bulbs for the next year. Remove the foliage when it starts turning brown.

WHEN: Plant bulbs anytime during the fall season from September through December as long as the soil is workable. It is generally best to get the smaller varieties and early bloomers in the ground first.

FERTILIZER: The new slow release fertilizer "Dutch Bulb Food" has been especially designed to make bulbs more perennial. Just a dusting in the fall at planting time will take care of the total fertilizer requirement. Another dusting at the end of bloom time helps the foliage to die back quicker.
