Navy and Copper
Working and decorating a Christmas shop, encourages me to do "theme" trees at home as well. We have had a
southwestern tree complete with chili lights and barbed wire musical instruments; last year we lost someone so special,
we decorated an angel tree in green, cream and copper in her honor. This year with all the millennium madness, I have
felt a strong need to do a flannel and teddy bear tree - as an expression of security.
However, my festive nature got the better of me and I have gone with a tree decorated in navy blue and copper.
My lights are clear, blue, amber, and orange. I used champagne colored netting for garland. I added huge copper-dyed
pinecones and cream colored starfish ornaments. I hung glass balls in deep blue, copper, taupe, and chocolate. Then, I
filled in with many of my angels. My son made me feel great by commenting it was the best-looking tree ever!
As for all of my red ornaments which have not been getting displayed, I found a spot for all of them. I totally
cleared my living room bookcase and refilled it with all my red, wooden, woolen and handmade kid's ornaments. I put a
few small poinsettias in some old brass pots to complete it.
Over the years, I have acquired quite a few snowmen. So, I have devoted my kitchen window to snowmen. I hung snowman
lights in my window along with some crocheted snowflakes. All the snowmen get nestled on buffalo snow. The icicle lights
hanging outside this window makes a terrific backdrop.
Unfortunately, my high hopes for the flowering pear tree branch that I was trying to force didn't work. My efforts
lasted the first 24 hours with a couple of fresh cuts and hot water however where I should have continued this for the
next couple of days, time just did not allow it. Oh well,. . . I bought some fresh pepperberry branches instead.
The difficult part now, is to know when to stop decorating and take care of other holiday needs - mailing out
season's greetings, baking cookies, shopping for gifts and oh yeah, stopping for a moment to remember what it is all
about.
