![]() SWEET SURPRISES EVERYWHERE! ISN'T SPRING JUST GREAT?!?!! Each day there are new flowering treats to surprise you - white star magnolias, weeping cherries, forsythia, pjm rhodis, daffodils all over, even tulips. It's all so pretty! Then, the next day you get 3 inches of snow - so pretty! Well it all melted quick enough - though, we probably could have used it to insulate plants the last couple of frigid nights. I haven't noticed any serious damage from this chilly blast. The nice slow start of spring helps trees, shrubs, and perennials to be quite resilient. Generally, you may lose buds and/or flowers but the plants themselves are fine. I haven't gotten motivated to get back to the garden yet. I still feel cold. However, the day before the snow fell, I was in shorts and a t-shirt clearing perennial beds and tossing seeds - "Bells of Ireland" and "Scarlet Flax". I was wanting to cut some tulips to bring inside before the storm but I had already sprayed them with Bobbex to deter the deer. The smell doesn't bother me but I thought inside it would be a bit much. The tulips survived and are back to looking perky again. The new grass is beginning to sprout and my Bleeding Heart and Coral Bells already have nice bushy growth. Well, last I heard it's going to warm up into the 60's -YEA! Time to plant more perennials! 4/13/00
