Sights of Autumn

This is such a wonderful time of year to drive around Connecticut.

Even with the threat of the drought ruining the fall colors, I am not disappointed. All the colors are such a beautiful sight. I think it is rather interesting though, how so many of these small towns with their strict ordinances insisting that retail signs be white with black lettering, allow politicians to post their billboards with very little regard to disrupting the scenic views. A week before an election is one thing - 2 months before is just plain ugly.

On a happier note, this time of year always inspires me to pull out my children's watercolor sets. It really does not take a whole lot of skill just the craving for a little fun. I love to just dab away and create little note cards or frame one of the kid's literary pieces to send to a distant relative who may have forgotten what New England is all about. Every year I promise to invest in a decent watercolor set and get some formal instruction (to raise the skill level).   But for now, my kids are happy to humor me.
